Case study · Restaurant and bar

Barnacle Bill's Rum & Raw Bar

Barnacle Bill's Rum & Raw Bar sits on US-17 Business in Murrells Inlet near the MarshWalk and serves oysters, seafood, burgers and drinks until 2 AM. A bar like that wins or loses guests on a phone screen before they pick a parking spot. Axiom built a WordPress site that answers what's on the menu, what's on special and what's happening tonight.

The problem · 01

Visitors decide in seconds

Most people looking for a bar near the MarshWalk are standing on the sidewalk or sitting in a hotel room. If they can't find the address, the hours and a phone number right away, they keep scrolling to the next place.

The solution

The basics up top, with one-tap directions

The homepage leads with the tagline, address, phone, hours and happy hour times, then four photo cards for the menu, specials, happy hour and music. On a phone, Directions and Call Now buttons sit right under the tagline.

Menus on paper go stale

Restaurant menus change with the season and the supplier. A photo of the printed menu is out of date the week it's posted, and search engines can't read it.

The solution

A real web menu, section by section

Axiom built the full menu as a web page with starters, wings, handhelds, seafood, entrees and sides, each item with a description and price. The restaurant can update it in WordPress, and it reads cleanly on a phone.

Daily deals only reach the regulars

Taco Tuesday and dollar oysters are what bring locals back, but if those deals only live on a chalkboard inside, nobody plans a night around them.

The solution

A weekly specials page by day

The specials page lists the everyday deals, the weekday happy hour and a deal for each day from Tuesday through Sunday. Guests can see what tonight's deal is before they leave the house.

Happy hour searches go to the big guys

People search for 'happy hour near me' all the time, and a one-line mention on a homepage rarely shows up for it. Smaller bars lose that traffic to directories and bigger chains.

The solution

A happy hour page written for local search

Axiom wrote a dedicated Happy Hour page that spells out the times, the drink and food specials and the location, adds a call-ahead box and answers common questions in plain language. The site also runs a blog of Murrells Inlet dining and nightlife posts that point back to the menu and specials.

Live music needs a home

Bands, theme nights and Sunday Funday are big draws, but flyers get lost in social feeds, and people who search for live music in the area never see them.

The solution

A music and events page with flyers and video

The Live Music & Events page brings together band videos, event flyers and the details for weekly events like Taco Tuesday and Sunday Funday, so the bar has one link to share for everything that's coming up.

Getting found for 'best bar in Murrells Inlet'

Local searches like 'best seafood in Murrells Inlet' are where new guests come from, and a site with a few short pages has little to show for them.

The solution

A local blog that keeps the site fresh

The blog covers topics people actually search for in the area, from seafood bars and live music to the best happy hour on the MarshWalk. Each post points readers back to the menu, the specials and the front door.
